2026 Farm Tour Schedule will be posted soon.

We'll have six seminars between April and November!

Why In-Person Agritourism Matters

Information about farming is widely available online—but real understanding comes from being on the land. At Sheepy Hollow Farms, visitors push fence posts into the ground, see animals move through pasture, and learn firsthand how decisions affect animal welfare and food quality.

Our agritourism program is built around the belief that ethical food production is best taught in person, by farmers who practice it every day. These hands-on experiences offer something truly unique in New Jersey: practical, immersive agricultural education for people who want more than a surface-level farm visit.

Hands-On Livestock Farming Experiences

At Sheepy Hollow Farms, agritourism goes beyond observation. Our hands-on livestock farming experiences are designed for individuals and families who want to understand how food is actually raised—ethically, humanely, and responsibly. Visitors don’t just see animals in a field; they learn the real-world practices behind raising sheep, pigs, and poultry on pasture.

Through guided instruction and live demonstrations, guests gain practical insight into fencing, rotational grazing, feeding, watering, and daily livestock care. These experiences are built for people who are curious about raising their own food or who want a deeper connection to where their meat and eggs come from. Every visit reflects the realities of working farms, not staged displays.

Raising Poultry for Meat and Eggs

Our poultry-focused agritourism sessions explore what it truly takes to raise chickens, ducks, and geese for both meat and eggs. Participants learn about pasture rotation, predator avoidance and best-practice livestock protection strategies, seasonal management, and humane handling—all through hands-on, in-person instruction.

Unlike traditional farm tours, these experiences emphasize doing and understanding, not just watching. Visitors see how mobile coops, fencing systems, and pasture management work together to support animal welfare and healthy food production. These sessions are ideal for anyone considering backyard or small-scale poultry farming.

Pasture-Raised Pigs: From Piglet to Pasture

Raising pigs on pasture requires thoughtful land management, animal handling, and ethical decision-making. Our pasture-raised pig demonstrations introduce visitors to the fundamentals of rotational grazing, shelter design, feeding strategies, and animal behavior.

Participants learn how pasture-based systems improve animal welfare while supporting soil health and sustainable farming practices. These sessions are designed for people interested in small-scale pig farming for personal use and food independence, offering practical knowledge that can’t be gained through videos or books alone.

Sheep Farming: Grazing, Lambing, and Shearing

Sheep are central to Sheepy Hollow Farms’ agritourism mission. Our sheep-focused experiences cover rotational grazing, flock health, seasonal management, and lambing practices, with live demonstrations that reflect real working conditions.

Visitors also learn about sheep shearing through educational demonstrations led by experienced professionals. These sessions highlight humane handling techniques, wool quality considerations, and the role sheep play in pasture management. Whether you’re new to farming or expanding your knowledge, these experiences provide meaningful, hands-on learning.

Ethical Food Processing & Transparency

Understanding where food comes from includes understanding how animals are processed ethically and responsibly. Sheepy Hollow Farms offers educational demonstrations focused on butchering and processing techniques for personal consumption only, emphasizing food safety, humane handling, and respect for the animal.

These sessions are designed to educate—not commercialize—and include discussions about processing options, such as custom processing for personal use and USDA-inspected facilities for those seeking professionally processed meat. By connecting the final step of food production back to the farm, visitors gain a fuller understanding of ethical food systems.

Guided Farm Tours & Seasonal Seminars

Throughout the year, Sheepy Hollow Farms hosts guided tours and structured seminars that bring all aspects of pasture-based farming together. These experiences are intentionally small-scale to encourage questions, discussion, and direct engagement.

Tours and seminars are updated seasonally to reflect what’s happening on the farm—from fall grazing and preparation to winter planning and spring lambing. This rotating schedule allows visitors to return and deepen their understanding of sustainable farming practices over time.
